The South Carolina Network of Children's Advocoacy Centers

The South Carolina Network of Children's Advocacy Centers (SCNCAC) is an accredited State Chapter of the National Children's Alliance,  and is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization of child advocacy center programs in South Carolina.

SCNCAC represents all eighteen local Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) in South Carolina.  The vision of SCNCAC is "we have met success when the needs of all South Carolina's children suspected of being abused or neglected are met."  The mission of SCNCAC is to promote the work of local Children's Advocacy Centers by assisting in the development, growth and continuation of accredited CACs.

In the early 1990’s, a task force was initiated by Senator Nell Smith. Steve Cuffe chaired a task force in 1994 which led to a proposal to the legislative children’s committee to fund children’s centers and develop statewide standards. This proposal died for lack of funding. Later the Children’s Justice Act Task Force established the children’s centers committee and recommended expansion of comprehensive centers. In 1997, the committee developed goals and standards after reviewing various models. The goal of establishing six centers by 1998 was attained. On June 13, 2000, SCNCAC was recognized by NCA as a chapter. On September 2, 2005, we were organized and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in South Carolina followed by receiving our 501(c)(3) letter on November 14, 2006.
