    This is a continuing series of updates for SCNCAC member Children's Advocacy Centers on the statewide CAC response to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to our normal updates from SCNCAC and member CACs, during this session we will cover the following topics.

    • SCNCAC emergency CAC grant funding updates
    • Federal VOCA fund updates


    The SCNCAC Legislative Consultant will be joining us for this meeting to participate in the CARES Act funding update.

    SCNCAC’s Initial Victim Service Provider training is a twenty-four-hour long training that includes the requirements for South Carolina's CVST and National Children’s Alliance Victim Advocacy training requirements.

    Training topics include: review and practice of communication stills, trauma-informed care, cultural competency, crisis intervention or de-escalation, develop strategies to overcome barriers through motivational interviewing, ethics, identify roles of different VSPs/Advocates, identify resources and referrals, discuss strengths, limitations, and possible overlap or conflicting roles of different VSPs, Partner and collaborate with other agencies to meet the needs of victims with special needs/considerations, SC Victims Rights and Statues, crime victim compensation, criminal justice system and court procedures, introduction to vicarious trauma for victim services, our historical foundation, the medical exam, and Collaboration Data System.

    Completion Requirements:
    The training consists of eight hours of online modules and five half day virtual live training sessions. The online modules will be available by Monday September 21st and must be completed by the first day of classroom time which is Wednesday October 7th.  By registering for this course, you agree to complete the online modules prior to Wednesday October 7th. 

    Victim Service Provider (VSP) credit is pending through the South Carolina Office of Victim Services Education and Certification.  If you are not VSP certified, apply for VSP certification through the Department of Crime Victim Services Training, Provider Certification, and Statistical Analysis (CVST).     Who should attend: Professionals who have contact with children who have or potentially have been abused or neglected, including but not limited to law enforcement officers, DSS staff, CAC staff, prosecutors, juvenile justice professionals, education staff, and mental health professionals.

    Overview: This 2-part webinar series is a multidisciplinary training designed for professionals who may have contact with potentially abused or neglected children with communication barriers. This includes children with autism, speech impairments, intellectual disabilities, visual impairments or blindness, and trauma- induced communication barriers; and children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The training will provide participants with a basic overview of these disabilities and barriers, communication challenges that may be encountered, and strategies to effectively communicate with these children. Presenters include staff from Family Connections S.C., S.C. Department of Education, S.C. Department of Health and Human Services, S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind, and Impact Clinical Consulting, LLC. Participants will also receive contact list of resource professionals in South Carolina who are available for consultation if needed. This webinar is offered in two parts, and participants may register for one or both. Participants wishing to attend both parts must register for each part separately.

    Dates: October 16, 2020 Part I: Children with Autism, Speech Impairments, and Intellectual Disabilities

    October 23, 2020 Part II: Children with a Visual Impairment or Blindness, Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, and Children with Trauma-induced Communication Barriers

    Course Times: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

    Fee: There is no charge for this training.

    Continuing Education Credits: 2 hours of continuing education credit for Law Enforcement and Victim Service Providers are expected for each part (4 hours total for entire course).
