SCNCAC Receives BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation Grant

19 Jun 2019 4:00 PM | Thomas Knapp (Administrator)

The South Carolina Network of Children's Advocacy Centers (SCNCAC) has been awarded a $581,276.00 grant from the BlueCross® BlueShield® of South Carolina Foundation to support the recommendations in the SCNCAC 2018 development plan. The SCNCAC Development Plan resulted from a 2018 SCNCAC feasibility study and needs assessment to guide the growth and development of Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) in South Carolina. The recommendations in the Development Plan seek to empower South Carolina communities and CACs to deliver a best practice response to child abuse and remove barriers to accessing services being faced by child abuse victims, non-offending caregivers, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) members in rural and economically disadvantaged areas of South Carolina.

The SCNCAC Development Plan project is divided into two separate multiple year phases. This BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation grant will fund phase one of the project which begins in June of 2019 and continues for multiple years. Phase two will also be a multiple year project which is tentatively scheduled to begin in the fall of 2019 pending approval of a similar but separate grant application which SCNCAC has submitted to another potential funder.

One primary goal of this grant project is to ensure that all children and non-offending caregivers have reasonable and equal access to the multidisciplinary team investigative approach and the evidenced based services provided by Children's Advocacy Centers regardless of where they live in South Carolina. The child centered evidence based medical, mental health, victim advocacy, and coordination services that CACs provide are vital to the health and healing of children when they have or are suffering from child sexual and/or physical abuse. This project will help to remove existing barriers to accessing services that families currently encounter in many rural and economically disadvantaged areas of South Carolina.

SCNCAC and our member Children's Advocacy Centers are grateful to the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation for partnering with us on this project.
