Therapist/Forensic Interviewer Job Description
Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, the Therapist/Forensic Interviewer's role is to enhance and expand comprehensive services for both child and adult survivors of sexual violence ages 3 and older to include individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and information and referrals. In this role, s/he will also provide forensic interviews and related services for child clients referred by Law Enforcement, DSS or the Solicitor's Office.
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work or a related field. Experience working with sexual assault survivors preferred. Clinical licensure and computer skills preferred.
- Ability to relate to individuals, groups, and diverse cultural backgrounds in an empathetic, non-judgmental manner; possessing maximum insight and awareness to be confident in the role, with knowledge of personal and professional capabilities and limitations.
- 3. Attendance and successful completion of Child First South Carolina within 6 months of being hired.
- 4. Knowledge of the impact and dynamics of sexual violence and the trauma symptomatology of both child and adult victims. This includes utilizing DSMIV / DSM 5 for diagnosis and treatment.
- Knowledge of the effectiveness of evidence-based, trauma focused therapy in working with child victims of sexual violence.
6. Knowledge of group process and the ability to lead and/or organize as facilitator a variety of evidenced based group formats/models for diverse ages.
7. Possess excellent communication and office skills.
8. Available to work flexible hours including some evening hours and weekends.
1. Provides full range of therapeutic services to include crisis, individual, group counseling and referrals for both child and adult survivors of sexual violence ages 3 and older and their family members using agency-selected, evidenced based best practice therapy models.
2. Conduct intake assessments and assist clients according to individual needs by establishing treatment plans with appropriate, evidenced based services.
3. Provide case management services to include maintenance of client files for assigned case load.
4. Participate in weekly case management to process client treatment plans and access resources and/or referrals for clients.
- 5. Conduct forensic interviews of children in cases of suspected child abuse.
6. Collaborate and coordinate with other agencies to provide support groups, referrals, and multidisciplinary approaches; create and implement services to a diverse population.
7. Assist clients in filing for Victim's Compensation under regulations of the state and assist clients in decision making process with the Solicitor's Office and/or Victim Witness Coordinator.
8. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings that will increase collaboration and coordination of services at the local level.
9. Provide testimony and/or expert testimony in court cases, as needed and as appropriately subpoenaed.
10. Complete written summary reports of the forensic interview and provide to the appropriate investigative agencies involved in the case.
11. Other duties deemed appropriate and necessary by Supervisor and/or Executive Director.
Supervision: This position does not supervise other personnel.
